    Bitcoin?

I recently had an offer to support with Bitcoin. I couldn't accept because we're not set up for it and I don't really understand how it works operationally.

Anyone think this is worth exploring/setting up at this stage? Any of you guys use Bitcoin?

It is pretty easy to set up a bit coin wallet - https://bitcoin.org/en/getting-started

I have never used it and have no idea if there would be any point. I can only assume that whoever offered support wanted total assurance of anonymity.

Since patreon doesn’t support supporting with bit coin you’d have to keep track of contributions manually. If you think it is worth the hassle I don’t see why you’d decline support.

I doubt it would be worth it. I use bitcoin here and there and it's easy to use but it's not prevalent enough to bother with I'd say.

Definitely not worth it. Most people will use something like Paypal instead.

I use bitcoin, highly recommend it. Excluding the values of BTC as a currency, here are some pros/cons of using it as a payment system:

            PRO:
            1. No risk of assets being frozen. Paypal / Patreon have shut accounts down before, bitcoin doesn't rely on a central authority for approval.
            2. Low transaction fees. Transferring BTC has a small, flat fee. There's no platform taking a cut of your money, like there is with Patreon/Paypal/Credit Cards in general.
            3. Relatively anonymous. I'm not sure how many people out there would like to support you, but hesitate due to fear of their name being associated with a shadowy corporation like Selectacorp ...But I bet it's a number larger than zero!
            4. Past results are not indicative of future performance and all that...But BTC/USD value has been steadily, exponentially rising since it's inception.

            CON:
            1. Requires some initial setup, though there are plenty of how-to guides out there.
            2. Can't buy everything with BTC yet, so you'd need to convert it to your local currency before buying your kinky office supplies, or what have you.
            3. Risk of becoming a Bitcoin fanatic and staring at charts in between evangelizing it's merits on niche internet forums like this one.

Thanks for the quick rundown nightz-- I wish I'd done something about it considering how it has just gone thru the roof! You snooze, you lose! (You=me)

CON : 4. Loose a significant amount of money since BTC is a highly speculative asset. An no : BTC/USD value has NOT been steadily, exponentially rising since it's inception. It has LOST MORE THAT 60% of its value in the last few months... https://i.imgur.com/bAhJK3i.jpg

I thought I should ask here rather than open another thread. Are there other ways of supporting (donating money )SelectaCorp than Patreon?

Patreon is convenient but it's expensive for both artists and donors. That VAT tax (for donors) is crippling. Sure it's not Patreon's fault some of us live under jurisdictions with VAT but it's still an issue.

I have no alternative to propose, they aren't really worth the hassle.

Later edit: I wanted to reply to the comments of my previous post but ended up making another one.

I hate using a VPN changer but I did it. With SoW2 in the works I have to show my support for the sequel to Selecta's best work.

Gayr, your support is most appreciated! You'll be pleased to know I've been in touch w/the new developers (Mint & Co) on their Discord server. They are reviewing the dox and response is "sure, what you're asking for isn't complicated, it's just... a lot Reviewing it" So, a positive sign!

I am for bitcoin too. I believe it is a payment system of the future. And the more people support it by transferring money with it's help, the faster it will grow too worlwide system. I wish I could pay for my studyings or rent with it. I try to use it everywhere I could. I even pay for my coffe with bitcoin.

I'm a fan too. We need an alternative to fiat currency which is just a scam anyway

Hi, I'm just planning to invest in bitcoin, because now it is very relevant, a lot of people advise me. Only there is one problem, as far as I know, now there are a lot of spammers who hack accounts and steal bitcoins. And therefore, it is best to find a secure service for storing cryptocurrency. I recently came across this service bitcoin tumbler . But I did not stop only on this option. Do you have any thoughts on this? I'm just interested to hear your opinion on this issue

Is there an alternative to giving Patreon a credit card? Like, could I send Selectacorp a pre-paid gift card? It's a better option for me. I dunno but I could imagine that there are people who want to support you but worry about things like anonymity.

I actually just had a great chat with someone in a similar situation who walked me through setting up the ability to accept crypto-- would that be an option for you? Another alternative- I always offer fellow creatives complimentary access. If you were to offer some content, I could accept that as 'payment' as well?

Just my two cents, its not difficult to setup a crypto wallet. There are no refunds or chargebacks, everything done on the blockchain is permanent. If you dont want to deal with the whole converting btc to money, just have one of the us accept bitcoin for making a paypal transaction/patreon - you might have to pay the transaction fees or accept a lower than market rate, but it solves the issue if you dont want to use coinbase/binance to sell it. BTC equals money. The rate of BTC is speculative, but track record over the years show exponential growth. Yes, it has lost 80%+ value at times, but i dont see people complaining when it goes 5000% up.

This might be a super dumb question but if everything on the blockchain is permanent and public, how does that help people who are concerned about anonymity? Thaaaanks!

I think you use a numeric one-off code that changes dynamically. I'm barely literate on the basics tho so don't go by me!
